Stephen K. Lewis is a drilling engineering consultant specializing in advanced drilling technology implementation in remote hostile-environment locations.

His early career included field positions in oil well cementing and drilling rig operation. After completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, he was employed as a reservoir engineer and reservoir engineering supervisor. He then returned to drilling engineering and operations as his professional focus. His subsequent experience has included drilling project engineering and on-site rig operations management.

His engineering duties have encompassed the entire drilling planning process from geophysical data analysis through well design engineering, writing well procedures, preparing permit applications and contracting for drilling rigs and materials. He has been involved in the design and implementation of specialized drilling equipment installations and the mobilization of exploration rigs to remote areas. He has worked in the continental US and Alaska, the Bering Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea and Norwegian Sea, the South China Sea and the Barents Sea.

His offshore experience includes the design and execution of wells utilizing all classes of mobile offshore drilling units including large semi-submersible rigs in waters up to 1800 feet deep. He has also provided consulting analysis of abandoned drilling projects in the National Petroleum Reserve Alaska and post-catastrophic blowout examinations in Cook Inlet, the Timor Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. His clients have included operating oil companies, state and federal regulatory agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
